It has been a minute since our last update, but don't let the radio silence fool you, things have been absolutely super busy behind the scenes!
First up, the family has grown. We’ve officially expanded the farm to a whopping 27 pepper plants. Our current lineup is a beautiful, spicy mix of Habaneros, Joe's Long Cayennes, Scotch Bonnets, Santaka/Thai Hots, Serranos, Poblanos, Dragon Rolls, Jalapeños, Gigante Jalapeños, and the legendary Ghost Pepper. To house this massive crew, we made a pretty radical executive decision; every single plant has been officially upgraded to a fabric pot. Because we tend to keep our pepper plants alive for years rather than treating them as annuals, we discovered a heartbreaking truth. In traditional plastic pots, the roots eventually become bound, coil around themselves, and slowly suffocate the plant. Fabric pots completely solve this. They offer incredible airflow to combat root rot, and they utilize a natural technique called "air pruning." Once the roots hit the fabric edge, they stop growing in circles and instead branch out into a healthier, bushier system. The repotting process was a bit stressful for all of the plants at first, but the peppers are already bouncing back with massive growth spurts and way bigger yields.
Over at the farm stand, things have been just as busy. We’ve honestly lost count of exactly how many .25oz bags have flown off the shelves, but we are closing in fast on the 100 package milestone! While that doesn't quite cover our total operational costs just yet, every single cent helps us to buy high quality soil and fertilizer to keep the farm running year round. And here is the best news of all; since we grow everything indoors, our stand won't be shutting down when the cold weather hits! Our dried peppers will be fully stocked all winter long, no matter how bad the weather gets outside. So definitely swing by and check out some of our latest batches. If you need a recommendation, the red poblanos and long cayennes have officially become our personal favorites.
